Dubrovnik Leisure

There are many activities and sights to see in Dubrovnik.  The town is alive with history, culture, and great places to eat where you can experience traditional cuisine.  As well, a string of islands near the coast, in the Adriatic Sea, make great destinations to visit and enjoy their natural beauty.

1. Old Town, heart of Dubrovnik, historic and scenic neighborhood walking Area - website

Strolling through the Old Town neighborhoods will introduce you to friendly people and historic structures.  If you want to get a “feel” for Dubrovnik, take a walk through Old Town.

2. Ancient City Walls, through Pile Gate, in Old Town, you can’t miss them! - website

You cannot help but be impressed by these massive structures that you can also climb for some of the best photographic opportunities of the area.

3. Island of Lokrum, 10 minute boat ride from Dubrovnik’s port - website

This scenic island will make you think you have traveled back into the Middle Ages when you arrive on its shores.  This lovely island has been spared devastation and destruction over the years and its beauty remains intact.

4. Placa Thoroughfare (Stradun), runs east-west through the city - website

One long pedestrian plaza, many cafes and tourist shops can be found here.  On both ends of the plaza is one of the Onofrio Fountains, dating back to 1438, which will also make the trek worthwhile.

5. Sipan, island near Dubrovnik - website

Sipan is the largest of the Elafiti Islands and has the greatest population.  It is one of the premier holiday destinations and many come to view the ancient ruins, as well as enjoy the tremendous scenery.

6. Lopud Island, island northwest of Dubrovnik - website

Another island of the Elafiti group, Lopud should not be missed.  Hills, valleys, and bays with white sand are a wonderful complement to swimming and relaxing.  This island is a great place for kids, too.

7. Island Palagruza, island near to Dubrovnik - website

With a lighthouse that was built in 1875, this island located in the middle of the Adriatic sea is a perfect place for exploration and discovery.  It is 1400 m long, 300 m wide, and covered with tropical vegetation.

8. Mljet, nearby island to Dubrovnik - website

A national park and a great place to escape from modernity, there are opportunities here for hiking, biking, and swimming.

9. War Photo Limited, Antuninska 6 - website

While perhaps not one of the most pleasant memories from your visit to Dubrovnik, nonetheless it is a part of the history and culture of the country and, for a complete picture to be within your heart, a tour of this establishment is a must.

10. Dubrovnik Aquarium and Maritime Museum, Damjana Jude 2, St. John’s Fortress - website

Located in St. John’s Fortress, next to the old port, the Dubrovnik Aquarium has an array of fish and sea life that are beautiful to behold.
